Message from the CEO

It is almost four years since we were registered as a fully fledged non governmental organization (NGO) in the Republic of Kenya. We had a concern for our community, and that’s why the like-minded residents of Kibera came together in an endeavour to seek a solution for their own problems.

Slum dwellers are subjected to a range of problems; lack of basic needs i.e. food and clothing, employment opportunities, lack of social amenities i.e. housing, water, electricity and hospitals.

Poverty in Kibera has deprived bright children of going to school since poor parents or guardians cannot afford their school fees. Even at primary level where tuition fees are minimal, lack of food has given its toll to school going children.

Our mission of establishing sector-specific programs to promote and improve living standards of the poor in the community has made us where we are today; we have not achieved enormous work but given the extent of our resources, we have made a great impact in this community! Children in our ECD School every year join the Free Primary Education in Kenya. So far over 60 children are in government primary schools around Kibera e.g. Olympic, Ayany, Toi and Old Kibera primary schools.

Most of our members/beneficiaries have been able to improve their living standards through active participation in small businesses that have seen the improvement of their purchasing power.

Many slum dwellers including school-leavers have benefited from computer training offered by us. The effect of this is seen in the ability by many people to browse the internet, acquiring local jobs and engaging in computer related businesses.

Our latest development of introducing the E-Learning at KISCODEP is another unequalled stride we have made in the recent past; only few countable schools in this country enjoy learning of this type, a case that is the pride of students from Kibera who attend the Centre.

I take this time to thank all our members who have devoted their time and meager resources in building the capacity of this organization. I also thank our beneficiaries who have trusted us and persevered with us during difficult times. Our thanks also go to our friends, partners and the government of support and encouragements given to us in fulfilling our objectives.

We are very pleased with you and appeal for all of you to continue supporting us for the good f mankind.
